MASSACHUSETTS COLLEGE OF LIBERAL ARTS - North Adams, MA
Location: North Adams, MA Category: Student Employment Posted On: Wed Nov 7 2018 Job Description:
Resident Advisors (RAs) are paraprofessional staff members of the Residential Programs & Services (RPS) at MCLA. They are responsible for assisting with the overall management of their assigned residence area, as well as the general welfare of the students who live there. The administrative staff, the Residence Area Security Monitor (RASM) desk staff, and the RA staff in each residence area work as a team to create an environment conducive to maximizing every student's personal growth and learning. The RAs' commitment to this goal extends beyond their work with the residents living in the assigned area to the total residence community and the residence life program. With this in mind, RAs are expected to support and adhere to the professional standards, philosophy and policies of RPS and MCLA in their daily job performance.

Job Requirements:
An RA is required to function in many different roles simultaneously. An RA is foremost a peer helper, educator and community builder, but also must serve as an administrator, disciplinarian, role model and conflict mediator. Since these roles are not always complementary, each RA must individually define, with the help of their supervisor, how to negotiate between the many different demands and time commitments of the position.

Additional Information:
Applicants must apply on Interview Exchange, as well as complete a supplemental application that is available at the RPS Office (Townhouse #89). The RPS Office is open M-F, 8:30am - 4:30pm. The Interview Exchange application must be completed by 4:00pm on Friday, February 1, 2019. The supplemental application is due back to the RPS Office by the same date and time.
RAs must be full-time students at MCLA. Applicants must have a minimum cumulative and overall GPA of 2.2; have a good record of campus citizenship; have a minimum of 15 completed credits at the time of application; and a minimum of one semester of on-campus living experience.
Review of applications will begin immediately.
Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts is committed to a policy of nondiscrimination and affirmative action in its educational programs, activities and employment practices. The College complies with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations advancing equal employment. Applicants who will enrich the diversity of the campus community are strongly encouraged to apply. Visit www.mcla.edu.
